Please read this carefully: we could not load Pyramid's live website when we checked. The plan details, prices and branch numbers on this page come from archived copies of its site dated 2021 to 2023. Plans and prices were last published then, so confirm every detail with Pyramid before you rely on it. We are independent and we do not sell cover.
Who Pyramid Funeral Parlour is and what it does
Pyramid describes itself as a local, family owned business that started in 1999. Its head office is at 36 First Street, Boksburg North, Gauteng. The site lists branches in Giyani in Limpopo, in Rustenburg (Tlhabane), Lethabong and Swartruggens in North West, and in Soweto and Carltonville. Pyramid's own pages disagree on how many branches there are, so we do not give a count.
The services it lists are burials and funerals, caskets and tombstones, transport including repatriation of remains from across the country and beyond its borders, refrigeration and body viewing facilities, and body preparation and embalming. Pyramid also says it helps local government with indigent burials.
What to know about Pyramid Funeral Parlour in 2026
- Pyramid Funeral Parlour is a family-owned parlour started in 1999, head office at 36 First Street, Boksburg North, Gauteng. (pyramidfuneralparlour.co.za (archived copy))
- It has branches beyond Gauteng: Giyani (Limpopo), Rustenburg, Lethabong and Swartruggens (North West), Soweto and Carltonville. The 2021 About page says 5 branches, the 2021 Contact page lists 7 addresses, so the branch count is not consistent on the site itself. (pyramidfuneralparlour.co.za (archived copy))
- Its Khomakwatsi Plus plan is a services-based plan (coffin, hearse, family car, removal, tent and chairs) with a six month waiting period and no stated age limit; a cash alternative is paid if the funeral is not done by Pyramid. Figures are from a 2021 copy and must be confirmed with Pyramid before use. (pyramidfuneralparlour.co.za (archived copy))
- The plan rates apply only to services by Pyramid within Gauteng or 100km of the Giyani and Rustenburg offices, so the plan is location-limited. (pyramidfuneralparlour.co.za (archived copy))

Where this information comes from
When we checked, Pyramid's live website would not load for us. Everything about its plans and branches therefore comes from archived copies of the official site: the home page from March 2023, and the about, contact, services and funeral cover pages from 2021.
That means the plan price, the grocery price, the branch list and the phone numbers may all have changed. The tables on this page are useful for knowing what to ask, not for what you will pay.
Before you pay Pyramid anything, phone a branch, check the details in writing, and confirm that you are dealing with the official Pyramid Funeral Parlour. Other businesses use similar names.
The Khomakwatsi Plus plan
Khomakwatsi Plus is a services based plan. As last published it provided a standard casket, hearse, family car, removal anywhere in South Africa, a funeral plus tombstone for the main member and spouse, storage, a coffin stand, a tent, chairs, tables, programmes and grave decor. The plans table above lists the items.
If a funeral is not done by Pyramid, the plan pays a cash alternative instead: R3000 for the main member, spouse and children over the age of 14, and R1500 for children under 13. That is far less than the cost of a funeral, so the plan is really only worth having if you intend to use Pyramid.
The published rate of R270 a month covered the main member, spouse and 10 dependents. It applied to services by Pyramid within Gauteng or a 100km radius from the Giyani and Rustenburg offices. If you live outside those areas, ask whether the plan is available to you and what it would cost. A R50 grave fee was an optional extra.
The waiting period was six months. No age limit was stated. The grocery package was R120 a month with a 3 month waiting period. Ask whether both are still on offer.

Who underwrites the plan, and how to check
Pyramid says it offers insurance products, but none of the pages we could read names an insurer or gives an FSP number. That is the first thing to ask about.
A parlour that sells funeral cover must itself be an authorised financial services provider, and a licensed insurer must carry the risk. Regulators have warned that some funeral parlours collect premiums without being authorised or licensed. Parlours that only provide funeral services do not need that authorisation.
Before you pay a premium:
- Ask Pyramid for the name of the insurer and for its FSP number in writing.
- Search for the FSP on the FSCA's register of financial services providers. The FSCA's toll-free number is 0800 110 443.
- Check that the insurer is on the Prudential Authority's list of licensed insurers.
- Make sure the name on the register matches the name on your policy documents.
Claims, complaints and what to ask before you pay
We found no claims page, claim form or list of claim documents for Pyramid. Ask a branch, in writing, what it needs when someone dies, and who decides a claim.
Ask these questions before you pay:
- Is the Khomakwatsi Plus plan still offered, at what premium, and for which areas?
- Who is the licensed insurer, and what is the FSP number?
- What is the waiting period today, and for which causes of death?
- What do I receive if the funeral is done by another parlour?
- Which branch will handle the funeral, and can it collect and bury where we need?
- What happens if I miss a premium?
If a claim is declined, ask for the reason in writing and the clause it relies on. South African rules say an insurer must decide a funeral claim within two business days of receiving every document it requires. If you cannot settle it, complain to the National Financial Ombud Scheme. It is free. Phone 0860 800 900, email [email protected] or use the form on nfosa.co.za.
