Broodie Funeral Parlour has its head office in Soshanguve, Pretoria, and an office in Fourways, Johannesburg. It conducts funerals and offers cremation, tombstone unveilings, memorial services and repatriation. It also sells funeral cover, which its brochure says is underwritten by Assupol.
This page lists the contact numbers Broodie publishes, explains what the parlour does and shows what to ask before you pay. Some of Broodie's pages could only be read through archived copies, and its plan details are in a 2023 brochure, so we do not quote premiums. We are independent and we do not sell cover. Confirm everything with Broodie.
Who Broodie Funeral Parlour is
Broodie Funeral Parlour is a funeral parlour with its head office at 2217 Industrial Site and Commissioner Road in Soshanguve, Pretoria. It also has an office in Fourways, Johannesburg. The addresses are in the contact section below.
Broodie lists funeral services, coffins, cremation, private viewing, memorial services, tombstone unveiling, and grave removal, relocation and exhumation. Its brochure also invites you to ask about repatriation. It sells funeral cover as well.
Because Broodie works from two offices, ask which one will handle the funeral and whether it can collect and bury in the town you need.

How to reach Broodie
Broodie lists three numbers in the table above: one for emergencies, one for pick-up and one for the office. The emergency number is also the one in the facts box. Broodie does not state that it answers 24 hours a day, so if nobody answers, try the pick-up number, and then the office during trading hours.
The office is open on weekdays and Saturdays, and on Sundays and public holidays it is open on call. The hours are in the summary above.
Broodie's 2023 brochure shows a different enquiries number from the one on its website, and we could not tell which is current. Use the numbers in the table, and confirm any other number with Broodie before you rely on it. If you pay a deposit or a premium, pay into an account you have confirmed by phone with the office.
Funeral services and cremation
Broodie's services include:
- Funeral services, with a private viewing if you want one.
- Coffins.
- Cremation.
- Memorial services.
- Tombstone unveiling.
- Grave removal, relocation and exhumation.
- Repatriation, which you should ask about.
Broodie does not publish funeral prices, so ask for a written quote that lists what is included, such as the coffin, hearse, family transport and any charge for distance. Compare it with at least one other parlour.
Funeral cover and who underwrites it
Broodie sells funeral cover, and its brochure says the cover is underwritten by Assupol. The brochure shows Broodie Funeral Parlour with FSP number 46317. We have not checked that number on the FSCA register, so do that yourself. Read about the insurer on our Assupol funeral cover page.
Broodie's plan details, including premiums and waiting periods, are in a brochure dated 2023, and we could not verify them. We therefore do not quote them. Ask Broodie for the current premium table and the policy terms in writing before you sign.
South African rules set some limits that apply to any funeral policy, including one sold by a parlour:
- The waiting period for death from natural causes may not be longer than six months. No waiting period may apply to death from an accident.
- A policy may not exclude suicide for more than 12 months from the start of the policy.
- If a premium is unpaid, the insurer must notify you within 15 days, and cover must stay in force for 15 days after the due date for monthly premiums.
- You may cancel a new policy within 31 days after you receive the required information, if no claim has been paid or made and no insured event has happened.
How to claim, and if a claim is declined
Broodie does not publish a claims page, a claim form or a list of documents. Ask Broodie or Assupol, in writing, which documents are needed and who decides the claim. Have the death notice from Home Affairs ready. It is form DHA-1663 when a doctor issues it.
If a claim is declined, ask for the reason in writing and the clause it relies on. South African rules say an insurer must decide a funeral claim within two business days of receiving every document it requires. If you cannot settle it, complain to the National Financial Ombud Scheme. It is free. Phone 0860 800 900, email [email protected] or use the form on nfosa.co.za.
What to ask before you pay
- Which office will handle the funeral, and can it collect and bury where we need?
- What exactly does the quote include, and is there a charge for distance?
- If I take out cover, who is the insurer named on my policy schedule?
- What is the waiting period, and for which causes of death?
- What are the current premiums for each person, and who can be added?
- Is the FSP number 46317 the number the FSCA shows for Broodie?
- What happens if I miss a premium?
Never pay before you have the arrangement and the price in writing.
