Affinity Funeral is a funeral policy from Affinity Life Limited, a registered life insurer. It has four cover levels, R10 000, R20 000, R30 000 and R50 000, and the monthly premium is set by the main member's age band. The lowest published premium is R101 a month, and you can join at any age from 18 to 75.
This page uses only what Affinity publishes on its own website and brochure, checked on 30 September 2026. We are independent and do not sell cover, so confirm the details with Affinity before you sign.
What Affinity Funeral is
Affinity Funeral is a product of Affinity Life Limited, which is both the insurer and the underwriting managing agent. It is a registered life insurer and an authorised financial services provider.
Do not confuse it with Affinity Health. That is a separate health insurance product from the same insurer, and it is not the funeral policy on this page.
Affinity Funeral has no cash-back option. If a payback benefit matters to you, compare other providers on our funeral cover comparison page.

Choosing a cover level and adding family
You choose one of four cover levels. The premium depends on the level and on the main member's age band, and the table above shows the published figures. Only the R50 000 level has a gap: no premium is listed for the 60 to 69 age band, so ask Affinity what it charges.
Children are covered at a share of the cover level. For example, on the R10 000 level a child above 15 has R10 000, a child of 7 to 14 has R5 000 and a child of 0 to 6 has R2 500.
Up to 12 dependants can be on a policy, including up to 6 extended family members. Extended family can be added at R65 each, with R10 000 payable per extended family member aged 15 and older. Their benefit has its own 6-month waiting period.
For more on covering relatives, see funeral cover for extended family.
Waiting periods, missed premiums and cancelling
Affinity's waiting periods are 6 months for natural death and 12 months for suicide. There is none for accidental death once the first premium is received, according to its brochure.
The law caps the waiting period for a natural death at six months and allows none for an accidental death. A new insurer also may not impose one if you had a funeral policy with another insurer at least 31 days earlier, covering the same people, and you had finished that waiting period. Ask Affinity about this if you are switching.
Premiums can be adjusted once a year, with at least one month's SMS notice. A policy lapses after two consecutive missed months, and it can be reinstated, but with new waiting periods. Under the regulator's rules a lapsed policy reinstated by the insurer must carry no new waiting period, so ask Affinity why it would apply one. There is a 31-day cancellation window.

Claim documents and payout time
Affinity lists these documents for a funeral claim:
- The Affinity Funeral claim form.
- The Department of Home Affairs BI 1663 form.
- A certified copy of the death certificate.
- A certified copy of the deceased's ID.
- A certified copy of the policyholder's ID.
- A certified copy of the beneficiary's ID.
- A certified copy of the beneficiary's bank statement with a bank stamp.
- A police report form, for unnatural deaths only.
Send them to [email protected]. Affinity's FAQ says claims are processed and paid within 24 to 48 hours after all required documents have been received. Its brochure says claims are paid within 48 hours.
The regulator's rule is that an insurer must decide a funeral claim within two business days after it has every required document. Our guide to how funeral cover payouts work explains the steps.
If an Affinity claim is declined
Ask for the reason in writing. The main reasons funeral claims are declined are waiting periods, fraud and unpaid premiums, according to the industry body ASISA. An insurer may not turn down a funeral claim because you did not disclose something it never asked about before the policy started.
Affinity lists [email protected] for complaints. If you are still not satisfied, complain to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900 or at nfosa.co.za. It is free for the person complaining. The Ombud may dismiss a complaint if three years or more have passed since you knew, or should have known, that you had cause to complain, so do not wait.
